DEFINITION: “pichu sthoola kavalika” a thick layer of swab or a cotton pad is called as Pichu.
It is an application of cotton dipped in lukewarm medicated oil on local body parts (head, lumbar region, cervical region, joints etc) according to the site of the treatment.
TYPES OF PICHU
Shiro pichu – placed on the central part of the head
Yoni pichu – inserted in the vaginal canal
Guda pichu – placed in the anus
Karna pichu – placed in the ear
Nasa pichu – placed in the nostrils
Nabhi pichu – placed over the naval
Kati pichu – placed on lower back region
GENERAL METHOD
Pichu is a localized oil therapy. First massage with medicated oil on affected area then a long, thick layer of cotton wool soaked with warm medicated oil is placed over that area. The Pichu is replaced periodically to keep it warm throughout the procedure. The selection of oil depends on type of dosha involvement and condition of the patient like in dandruff condition Dhoordrapatradi coconut oil is used. For Joints pain and stiffness kottamchukkadi oil, Pinda, Murivenna oil, for headache ksheerbala, sudhabala, For Uterine prolapsed Dhanwantarm oil, and Fissure- in- ano condition Jatayadi ghee or oil is used.
Duration – 30 mins , Minimum 7 – 14 sessions
