Details-

  • Asthma is a respiratory tract disorder in which there is obstruction of easy flow of air in the lungs.
  • It is a chronic obstructive disease of the airways of lungs where bronchial tubes get obstructed or inflamed.
  • As per Ayurveda it is a Pranvaha Stroto Vikar and is called as “ Shwasaa”
  • It is considered as Kapha- vata disorder.

 Causes according to Ayurveda-

  •   Aahar ( Diet)-

       Excessive intake of guru ( Heavy), Ruksha( Dry), Sheeta ( Cold) Dietray food

        For eg- Heavy to digest and cough producing food like sweets, banana, black gram, curd, milk, sour food, citrus fruits , meat, canned or preservative food

        Excessive intake of Ruksha( Dry), Sheeta ( cold)  and Vata increasing diet like raw vegetables , salads, cold water, excessive salt, heavy dinner 

  •    Vihar( activities)-

               Expose to dust, smoke, cold air

               Living in cold, dump and humid area.

               Cold water bath

                Sudden change in climate

               Excessive sex.

 

Samprapti ( Pathogenesis) -

Vata and kapha dosha gets vitiated due to above mentioned improper diet , bad weather and wrong lifestyle. The vitiated “ Pranavayu”( Vata) combines withderanged “ Kapha Dosha” in the lungs and cause obstruction in the “Pranavaha Strotas” ( Respiratory system) leads to dofficulty in breathing and known as ‘Shwasa Roga”

  • Coughing
  • Trouble in sleeping due to coughing or wheezing
