DetailsDiabetes in a very simple terms, is define as an excess of sugar in the blood. Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder in which the body is unable to make proper use of glucose resulting in hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) and glycosuria (sugar in urine). There are two Types of DM Type 1 diabetes (insulin-dependent) in which the pancreas fails to produce the insulin. Type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent) which results from the body's inability to respond properly to the action of insulin produced by the pancreas.
According to Ayurveda Diabetes Mellitus is known as Prameha.There are 20 forms of Diabetes (Prameha): 4 are due to Vata, 6 from Pitta, and 10 are due to Kapha.All forms of diabetes not treated, eventually develop into Madhumeha (Diabetes Mellitus). Causes According to Ayurveda the primary cause of Madhumeha are an unhealthy diet that aggravates the Kapha dosha, lack of exercise, excessive sleep and stress, excessive intake of sugar and refined carbohydrates, Overloading of proteins and fats. Hereditary factors also play role in causing diabetes.
